San Diego is a nationally recognized leader in public safety communications. The Regional Command and Control Communications (3Cs) is taking communications one step further, by providing first responders more ways to work together to protect the lives and property of the communities they serve.

3Cs is an independent private communications network which directly connects public safety agencies and encourages inter-agency collaboration. Using tools like video conferencing and streaming video, first responders can work together quickly and easily to determine how best to manage large-scale incidents such as natural disasters or terrorist incidents. The goal is to ensure that any public safety responder have the most up to date information possible when responding to a large-scale incident.

Proposed jointly by the City and County of San Diego as a regional solution, the pilot program for the 3Cs network includes San Diego Sheriff’s Department, San Diego Police Department, San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, CalFire San Diego Unit, as well as the County and City Emergency Operations Centers. Future phases of the project will include public safety agencies from across San Diego County as well as neighboring jurisdictions.

After the devastating 2003 fire season, public safety officials across the region agree on the importance of law enforcement and fire-rescue agencies working together. The Regional 3Cs Project is an example of public safety working together to find a common solution for the region which will benefit large and small municipalities in the region.
